About the Department

Shalakya Tantra, one of the eight classical branches of Ayurveda, focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of organs located above the clavicle, including the eyes, ears, nose, throat, and teeth. This department provides education and training on disorders affecting the supraclavicular region. It operates under three main categories: Ophthalmology, ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat), and Oro-Dental sciences.

The department offers various therapeutic procedures such as Netratarpan, Seka, Aschyotana, Anjana, Bidalaka, Karnapoorana, Karna Dhoopana, Nasya, Kaval, Gandusha, and Dumapana. The branch derives its name from the extensive use of “Shalaka” (probe). It is also known as Urdhwanga Chikitsa, indicating its focus on the upper body. Surgical and para-surgical management is also provided within the department.
